What a girl wants, what a girl needs. And in my case this happens to be Chocolate very, very often. I don’t like the milk, the hazelnut or the white kind of chocolate. The darker the chocolate, the better… “Once you go black…”
Lets start with some basic info’ people. Did you know that cacao is one of the riches sources of flavonoids (antioxidants)? It contains three times more antioxidants than a cup of green tea! Also, the latest research shows that chocolate is good for your heart and reduces stress! So: thumbs up for chocolate so far, but are there downsides? Well, of course chocolate is that type of food you have to eat with moderation. It contains lots of calories and we do not want to gain extra weight. Furthermore dark chocolate is high in caffeine, which can make you feel a bit jittery during the day. And last but not least: it contains tyramine, a natural chemical that has been linked to migraines.
Over the years I’ve tasted a LOT of chocolate and I have to admit that I have my favorite brands. Wondering which ones? I made a list to make it a bit easier for you. You can read it below.
LoveChock has been on number one for a few months now. No chocolate bar has proven to be its match. It is without a doubt: the best ever. LoveChock is made by hand and only the best organic, raw cacao from Ecuador is used. It does taste different than the regular stuff you buy in the supermarkets. It tastes less buttery and way healthier. This truly is the way we’re meant to indulge in a chocolate bar.
Flavors available: 1. Pure/Nibs | 2. Almond/ Fig | 3. Goji/Orange | 4. Pineapple/Incaberry | 5. Mulberry/Vanilla | 6. Cherry / Chilly
Ombar is 100% organic, made with unroasted, cold-pressed cacao. In addition, they contain coconut blossom sugar and coconut butter in contrast to the unhealthy ingredients, which tend to get in chocolate bars, such as refined (cane) sugar, milk powder and lecithin. But there is more: the Ombars also contain low temperature dried Acai berries, Goji berries, Blueberries, Cranberry berries, green tea and probiotics. Sounds amazing right! And they taste wonderful too.
3. Green & Black’s
Green & Black has a chocolate bar for everyone. There’s an all white, a raisin & hazelnut, regular milk and a huge range of dark chocolate flavors. I was feeling a bit adventurous the other day and I tried the Spiced Chilli chocolate. I absolutely loved it. But my all time favorite of Green & Black’s still remains the 85% cocoa bar.
Flavors: | 1. Spiced Chili | 2. Mint | 3. Toffee | 4. Hazelnut & Currant | 5. Almond | 6. White | 7. Ginger | 8. Dark 85% | 9. Milk | 10. Maya Gold | 11. Dark 70% | 12. Hot Chocolate
Bovetti Organic chocolate is hand made from the best cocoa from the Dominican Republic. They have amazing flavors you would not expect in a chocolate bar, such as lavender, ginger or cinnamon. And their taste is beyond. Bovetti is a must try!
5. Tony Chocolonely
And last but not least: Tony Chocolonely, a chocolate brand with a mission! They buy their cocoa directly from farmers in Ghana and Ivory Coast which is an important step towards 100% slave-free chocolate. They also buy their ingredients (where possible) Fairtrade certified. And the taste of these babies is beyónd.
What do you think about my top five? Have you spotted a few you already know or do you have a brand you recommend?
I’d love to know.
