Fashion Revolution Day - ArmedAngels Vice

Today’s topic is about creating awareness about something I think is very important. To do so I really want to show you this video that sustainable brand Armed Angels created together with VICE to remember the collapse of the Rana Plaza complex in Bangladesh. It is exactly three years ago today, that this horrible event occurred and more then 1135 lives were lost.

You’ve probably noticed a lot of brands stepping up to the plate ever since this tragedy, but there are still lots of people / brands who look the other way. To be honest, we all tend to close our eyes sometimes. Me included! Sometimes we just buy things without thinking about what lies behind it, but questions as: “why is this particular garment so cheap and who are the suppliers?” are very important ones and they need to be asked. We as consumers need to demand from brands to provide humane conditions for their workers, but as long as we ask for extremely cheap clothes… there will always be someone producing them.

Working in fashion is a privilege in my case, but I am very aware this isn’t for everyone. There are SO many people who work under horrible, not to mention dangerous, circumstances and are getting paid little to nothing. We should pay more attention to those people, starting by creating more awareness. To make a long story short, all I’m trying to say is that even the smallest steps can help make a big impact. Watch this video and tell all your friends and family to watch it too. Let’s create some more awareness about fast fashion together and use your voice. Fashion is way to beautiful to have such a dark side, don’t you think ;)?

Loved this article. I think its very important to push this issue. Our generation is so caught up in having the newest and trendiest thing, that we sometime forget about whose on the other side making these products. I would love to see a change in the world and in fashion.
