Curious how my detox week went? Read on for my full diary.
I’ve been having six green juices a day for the last five days, but today my pancakes made it back to the breakfast table. Yay! This week has been a true challenge, I ‘m telling you.
I was able, together with my friend Chiara from GirlsLoveHealthy.nl, to test a juice cleanse from JuiceBrothers Amsterdam. Being the though girl that I am, I chose the greenest option they offer. This option contained four greener then green juices, a master cleanse with maple syrup, lemon, cayenne pepper and alkaline water & a nut milk with coconut sugar and vanilla (my favorite!). Living off of six juices a day was sometimes easy, sometimes made me crazy, but also gave me a few huge benefits in return. Let me take you through my journey day by day.
The first day was an exciting day. I got to taste every juice for the first time and it made me curious for the next. The juices made me lose my appetite, so I wasn’t hungry one bit. My favorite juice is the Vanilla Sky juice I got to have in the evening. What was really motivating is that Chiara and I we’re really supportive to one another. #togetherwecan became our moto, hahaha as if we were battling world hunger.
As you may know I’m also doing a hot yoga challenge. You can read more about it over here. People warned me to take it easy, because I might get dizzy during practice, but this didn’t occur whatsoever. Yay for me :).
Day two was easy-peasy. It was over before I knew it. This day I made the adult decision to skip my regular workouts as long as I’m detoxing and to just focus on my one hour of yoga everyday. Think that’s good enough ;). One thing that I notice during this detox is that I get tired very early at night. On this second day I fell a sleep on the couch when it was only 9 p.m.!
As my friend Chiara puts it, this was the day of hell. It wasn’t that we we’re really hungry, but we had CRAVINGS like never ever before. All we could talk about were the pancakes we were going to eat. This was also the day that I had to work. At my job they make lots of grilled cheese sandwiches and thát smell is not what you want to smell when you’re on a cleanse. My coworker/friend even asked me to check if hers was burning, hahaha you understand why I didn’t go and do that of course…
The yoga-thing is still going great on the third day. Didn’t feel out of breath or without energy one bit so I made it trough full practice without skipping a posture.
Kept telling myself: ‘tomorrow is your last day. Hang in there. You got this. I WANT PANCAKES‘. haha, yet today wasn’t as bad as the third day. This was the day where I got new energy and my sense of smell got heightened a lot! I smell literally everything: The flowers from across the street, the strawberries on the market etc. etc. A whole world just opened up for me.
Yoga was also going good. It’s part of my daily routine so I don’t even think about it anymore. I just ‘go’. The thing that wasn’t so great was was my mood. Hello, miss Grumpy. Sorry boyfriend ;).
Ha, this day was the last so I expected it to be the easiest. Little did I know… the evening resulted in eating a hand full of nuts and drinking two extra juices (chocolate plant based mylk and matcha mylk) I purchased at the JuiceBrothers shop. It was Friday after all ;). So I thought I deserved a little extra.
My yoga practice also went superb. Can you believe that this was day 19/21 again. It’s going by so fast!
No I didn’t do a sixth day :). But I do want to share the day after with you (including my pancakes) ;). The thing I learned during these five days is that I’m such such such a food lover and life without food is just a bit, well: boring! I have lunches with people, go and drink coffee’s, love to have dinners outside and I can’t go without my luscious pancakes.
Will I do this again? Well maybe yes, but not for five whole days. I think three days is a better option for me. I really feel that this cleansing did wonders for my body. I feel energetic, my skin never looked better and I absolutely love my new sense of smell. This detox also made me realize that I’m kind of a coffee addict and that I use way too much soy in my smoothies and coffee. So I’ve decided to skip those for now :).
I hope I answered all you’re questions. If you still have some remaining, please ask them in the comments below or on my Instagram page :).
